The Final Diary: My One-Way Ticket to Ecuador and a New Chapter
Jump to photos⤵Things are looking up this week. I’ve booked everything for Ecuador, it’s official! I’ll be living there from August and I am STOKED. What’s even better is you can fly in business class on Iberia with a dog, so buzzing. Now I know that sounds like I’m trying to pull a casual flex but normally, with a dog in the cabin, they have to go under the seat in front of you (and airlines are very strict about this).
Can you imagine an 11-hour flight in economy and not being able to even put your feet under the seat in front of you?
No thank you, peasants.
It was only £900 one-way as well, plus £150 extra for the dog. Bargain.
I’ve booked an Airbnb for the first month I’m on the ground and I’ll start looking for a rental… so, so, so excited.
Visa process should be starting next week (let’s hope this doesn’t flop!), I’m just waiting on my police clearance certificate, which has a 20-working day waiting period. 🫠
We’re finally getting there… my new life… an entire year later than planned and not without it’s hiccups, but at least it’s on my own terms – I wouldn’t change a thing.
As such, I’ve decided to wind-down my weekly diary entries after this. The reasons being are that, this journey, in this phase, is coming to an end and I don’t really have much to write about on a daily basis anymore. Plus I want a bit more privacy now that I’m eventually going to be staying put in one place.
What I will be doing instead is talking a bit more anecdotally and talking about my experiences living location-independent. More of a stream-of-consciousness rather than details into my day-to-day life.
Things like… do I miss home (no), will I ever come back (no) and does life still suck sometimes (yes) and how do I deal with it? How do you make friends? Why did you do this? What do you think you’ll do in five years? What does your hometown look like from 10,000 miles away (like the movie Groundhog Day)?
And if you’re reading this and have a burning question… let me know and I’ll add it to a future topic.
So… thanks for sticking with me for the last 31 weeks… see you soon 👋

Well….over 30 weeks of travel, digs, food and different places, we are looking forward to seeing you.
It reads like you really have found your ideal, and hopefully found yourself.
Come on back, to fish and chips and warm beer, cold nights and needing a pullover.
Looking forward to seeing you.
